A gang of dacoits was apprehended by authorities in Chak Sigo from the jurisdiction of Chauntra police station on Friday.

The police recovered four pistols with 25 bullets, mobile phones and two motorcycles that the dacoits used while looting people on the roads, police sources informed after the incident.

However, sources revealed that some members of the gang were still at large and every effort was being made to bring them to book.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Raheem Zada, Bismillah Khan, Sahibzada Khan, all hailing from Bajaur Agency in Fata, and Zafar Ali, a resident of Sadabahar, Mardan.

Station House Officer Hafeezur Rehman, when contacted, informed that police nabbed the criminals while they were looting people at gunpoint, depriving them of mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

“They stopped a pedestrian today and snatched Rs55,000 and a mobile phone from him,” informed Rehman.

He said a police patrol team, under the supervision of Sub Inspector Zahoor, rushed to the crime scene after getting reports of the criminal activity. The looters attempted to flee the scene after seeing the police but were chased and successfully caught by the police.

He said the four dacoits confessed to 18 robberies committed in Hazro, Taxila, Hassanabdal and Fateh Jang.
