Domestic violence: Man sets wife on fire

A woman was set on fire in Yazman on Tuesday allegedly by her husband. She was taken to tehsil headquarters hospital, where doctors treating her said she would likely survive.
A case was registered at the City police station.
Nazia Bibi’s brother Abdullah told police that she had married Mohammad Abid, a resident of the Chak 56-DB, 10 years ago. They had three children.
Abdullah said Abid had been unemployed for several years and had started drinking and gambling. He said he would often send Nazia Bibi to her parents with requests for money. He said he would also beat her if she resisted. He said Abid had sold all her gold jewellery and was now pressing her to ask her parents to give them some of their property.
On Monday night, he said, they had quarrelled again after which Abid threw petrol at her and set her on fire. Some neighbours heard her shout for help and rushed to her rescue. She was taken to tehsil headquarters hospital in Yazman, where doctors treating her said that she had 30 to 35 per cent burns. They said her face and both her arms had been affected.
They said she was now out of danger, but would be kept under observation for 48 hours.
Station House Officer Ghulam Mohiuddin told The Express Tribune that the suspect was missing. He said a police team was looking for him, he said.
