MULTAN: A Dera Ghazi Khan-bound truck, laden with goods worth Rs10 million, was looted on the National Highway near Manga Mandi on Tuesday.

Police said the truck was carrying merchandise for 43 shops in Lahore.

They said it was stopped by eight armed men, who beat up the driver and fled with the loot.

Some passers-by took the driver, Din Mohammad, to a nearby hospital, from where he was discharged a few hours later.

Manga Mandi Station House Officer Mian Ghulam Farid said the police were looking for the robbers. He said the area was being raided to find the robbers.

In a small demonstration later, traders and goods transport company owners requested the prime minister and the chief minister to take notice of the incident and direct the police concerned to tighten security on the highways.
