Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif informed the National Assembly on Tuesday that the government would soon announce a comprehensive energy policy for resolving energy crisis in the country.
The minister said load-shedding has been reduced during past few days and the situation will further improve with more electricity coming to national grid during upcoming weeks.
The minister said that there is a shortfall of 700 megawatts (MW) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa resulting in 14 hours of load shedding in rural areas, 12 hours in urban areas, and eight hours for commercial and industrial units.
He said that 600-700 MW more hydel power is expected in the national grid and the government is working on a roadmap to ensure equitable load-shedding as directed by the Supreme Court, adding “We hope that if we cannot end load-shedding, we can at least succeed in cutting down load-shedding to the optimum.”
