Blast destroys house in Orangi

KARACHI: A mysterious explosion destroyed a house in Mairajuddin Colony, Sector-10, Orangi Town on Wednesday, however, no was injured in the incident.

The Mominabad police said that the exact cause of the blast was unclear, but it is suspected that there were a large number of firecrackers in the house that accidentally caught fire.

“There was a wedding at the house a week back, and the people living here had stored explosive material for fireworks,” said SHO Mominabad Muhammad Sajid.

Soon after the incident, the police, fire brigade and bomb disposal squad arrived at the spot.  The blaze was extinguished before it could engulf the neighbouring houses.

The house was owned by Muhammad Sageer, who died recently. Before his death, he had rented it to Anees and Shahid, who arranged the wedding there.

Such incidents occur regularly in the city, mainly because people continue to sell and use firecrackers at celebrations despite the fact that these are prohibited.

Recently, some shops in a commercial building caught fire when a blast occurred in one of the shops, where firecrackers were being sold.
