President appoints Muhammad Khan Achakzai as Governor Balochistan

ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Muhammad Khan Achakzai as Governor Balochistan, Express News reported on Tuesday.
The decision was taken on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Muhammad is the elder brother of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) senior vice president Mehmood Khan Achakzai.
It was earlier reported that the party’s central secretary general, Akram Shah, was likely to be nominated for the slot.
Three other politicians Nawab Ayaz Jogezai, Dr Kalimullah Khan and Dr Hamid Achakzai – PkMAP chief’s younger brother – were also in with a chance, party sources had said.
On June 9, the president accepted resignation of Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfikar Ali Magsi.
President Zardari took time to accept the resignation as he had to administer oath to the newly elected chief minister.
Magsi has remained governor of Balochistan since 2008. He had announced his resignation following a power-sharing deal between three coalition partners – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PkMAP and National Pakistan (NP) – in Balochistan. On June 2, the three parties agreed to nominate Dr Abdul Malik of NP as chief minister and said that the next governor would be from PkMAP.
