LAHORE:

Chief minister-designate Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz would work towards reforming the police culture, courts and revenue offices.

“We are finalising a strategy to change the thana culture,” he told party workers at Model Town. He said that there would be no room for corrupt officials in the Police Department once the plan was implemented. He said he hoped that the computerisation of land records, which had started during his last tenure, would be complete by 2015.

Sharif said that the Supreme Court had praised the move to computerise land records and legislation to improve revenue collection. It had also recommended the measures as model for other provinces, he said.

Of the 137 facilitation centres to be opened for matters pertaining to land records, 40 had had been set up while the rest would be established by December, he said. “We will offer our expertise in computerising land records to other provinces, including KP,” said Sharif.

Earlier speaking to media at the airport, Sharif said that his interaction with overseas Pakistanis had rekindled hope for the country’s future. “Most expatriates believe that the PML-N will usher in a new era of prosperity and progress,” he said.

To a query regarding a reshuffle in the bureaucracy, he said,“Decisions regarding that will be taken at an appropriate time and only competent officials will be given offices.”
