BIRMINGHAM: The ICC Champion Trophy warm-up match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka never saw the light of the day on Thursday owing heavy clouds and a steady downpour of rain.

ESPN cricinfo reported that at 1pm local time, it was unlikely the match would start on time.

The umpires were asked to inspect the outfield which was completed by 2:30 pm. Multiple inspections by the umpires were subsequently carried out during the day in the hope that once the water was cleared off the field, the game could be started, despite the delay.

Finally at 4pm, the umpires gave up and it was reported that the match has been abandoned owing to the fact that the rain had shown no signs of stopping.

The next warm-up match is scheduled to be played on June 1.
