Trial court: IHC seeks reply from the state

The petitioner’s counsel maintained that there was no evidence against his client.

ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday sought a reply from the state in response to a bail plea filed by former president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in the judges’ detention case.

The division bench of IHC comprising Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui sought a reply from the state on June 4. On May 22, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had rejected the post-arrest bail of the former president. However, while challenging the trial court, Musharraf filed a bail application in the IHC.

During the course of the hearing on Monday, Musharraf through his counsel Advocate Ilyas Siddiqi maintained that the trial court had rejected his post-arrest bail despite the fact that terrorism charges do not apply in his client’s case. The petitioner’s counsel maintained that there was no evidence against his client and he could not be declared responsible in this case. He informed the court that the main complainant Advocate Chaudhry Aslam Ghuman had withdrawn his complaint and disassociated himself from the case.
