The Reluctant Fundamentalist (TRF) is all set for its red carpet premiere on May 23 at Cinestar in Lahore, where socialites and celebs are expected to attend. The drama-packed film by Mira Nair, an adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s acclaimed book of the same name, has many at home and abroad excited about its release.
TRF is about a Pakistani man Changez (Riz Ahmed) who meets an American journalist Bobby (Liev Schreiber) in a café in Lahore. Changez talks about his experiences in the US after 9/11 which affect his relationship with Erica (Kate Hudson), work and the American dream he had been pursuing. Meesha Shafi plays Changez’s sister in the film, and has also contributed to the soundtrack.
British-Pakistani actor and rapper Riz feels he is very different from the character he played. “I am very much a Londoner — born and raised — while this character is from Lahore. I have never even been to Lahore! So I had a lot of homework to do,” Riz told examiner.com earlier this year.
The film will be officially released throughout Pakistan on May 24, along with The Great Gatsby and Iron Man 3. While the Indian film-maker is making headlines around the world already, we are proud of our Pakistani author and cast — three cheers for Mohsin Hamid and Meesha Shafi!

@musthaq ahmed - Mira Nair knows more about India & Pakistan that is why she is behind the camera and has made great films and does not make the typical Bollywood films loaded with sex and slime. I think this films is lost for people like you and @ahmed who just do not get it and are incapable of enjoying a brilliant film as a result of a great book by Mohsin Hamid
Boring book...I guess Film producers love a boring book with catchy name- They can make anything out of it

Was this silly remark necessary in what is supposed to be factual news reporting? Pakistani media fails, woefully, in differentiating between neutral objective reporting and subjective and biased personal opinion. By the same token, why were not your precious "three cheers" not meant for Mira Nair who is, actually, the creative brain behind this movie which gave Pakistani artistes an opportunity to be launched or get work in a film with international appeal? Mira Nair has done some wonderful movies such as the highly-acclaimed "Monsoon Wedding", "Salam Bombay", etc. Your "three cheers" actors Mohsin Hamid and Meesha Shafi, who find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to portray their roles before an international audience, should be grateful for being picked by Mira for her movie. As for your "three cheers", I am sure, Mira Nair does not care much for them.
@Ahmed @Yuri Kondratyuk @ashar Talk about missing the point entirely.
The whole point was that the "fundamentalist" may not be the stereotypical "fundamentalist" we all like to imagine in our heads.
I guess it's just wasted on some people; why even bother.
It's strange that a movie will be made about a guy who has an affair and then fornicates and in the end he's a "Fundamentalist". Strange. The post 9/11 - harassment of Muslims story has been done a million times. Cliched and monotonous.
in real life its more like,"the enthusiastic terrorist"
Its very ironic, the film is about Pakistan and it was shot in India.
Story of a typical post 9/11 confused muslim wannabe
Very funny. A fundamentalist and reluctant? Only liberals are reluctant.
It is a good movie. I liked it very much.
