Timely action by the police helped avert damage to life and property in Soomro Colony, Mirpur Mathelo, on Monday night when a live hand grenade was found and defused.
The police were called in when a passerby spotted the grenade lying near a drain.
The area was immediately cordoned off and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the bomb.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Sukkur BDS in-charge inspector Tahir Malik said that the grenade was of Russian origin and HE-36 make.
Had it gone off, it would have caused damage within a radius of 40 metres, he added.
