Benefit of doubt: Convicted murderer walks free
There was no documentary evidence against Ahmad which would corroborate his link with the incident, says lawyer
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Wednesday acquitted a prisoner on charges of killing his spouse. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik passed the order on an appeal moved by Maqsood Ahmad, the appellant. The appellant’s lawyer submitted that the trial court in Pakpattan had awarded him a death sentence relying only on the prosecutions’ witnesses. He said there was no documentary evidence against Ahmad which would corroborate his link with the incident. The prosecution said the convict had killed his wife when she resisted selling her house. It pointed out that the trial court had granted him a death sentence after recording the evidence and statement of witnesses and requested the bench to dismiss the appeal. The bench granted Ahmad the benefit of doubt and acquitted him.
