Scuffle: Lawyers vs Musharraf supporters
Scuffle broke out between lawyers and Musharraf supporters outside Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court.
RAWALPINDI:
Former president Pervez Musharraf appeared before an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Tuesday in connection with the Benazir Bhutto murder case. As the court was hearing the case, a scuffle broke out outside the court premises between lawyers and Musharraf supporters.
Both the sides threw stones and beat other with sticks outside the court building, an AFP reporter said.
Musharraf’s supporters reportedly injured a few lawyers during the scuffle but were forced to retreat as lawyers charged at them. Police remained a silent witness throughout but later resorted to baton charge on former president’s supporters.
About 150 lawyers hurled abuse at the former president while two dozen supporters chanted "Long live Musharraf!"
Pictures showed lawyers hurling stones at Musharraf's supporters, along with engaging in fist fights.
On microblogging website Twitter, some Musharraf supporters enjoyed the lawyers' thrashing, while others condemned the violent acts of the upholders of law.
