KWSB to use latest IT technology.

KARACHI:

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) will use the latest information technology tools to improve recovery, raise awareness and improve communication with its customers.

The board held two meetings with the World Bank Water Sanitation Programme for South Asia (WSP) consultants, who have offered to provide the KWSB with the technology to bring it on a par with modern standards. During the meetings, WSP consultants, Idrees Butt and Cazy, briefed KWSB officials about the practical uses of mobile phone applications, SMS alerts and other services, which can be used for mutual coordination, relaying information regarding schedules and recovery.

They discussed the possibility of e-payments through cellular phones, adding that the technology will be implemented and operational within the next two to four months. Later, the consultants also met KWSB managing director Misbahuddin Farid to discuss the prospects of implementing IT applications.
