Police encounter: Three killed, two arrested
Police said the gang had been operating under an ASI.
MULTAN:
Three men, said to be criminals, were killed on Sunday, and two others were arrested after a shootout with the police.
Haram Gate police said a car was signalled to stop near Shedee Laal Pul. They said the men in the car were being escorted by a policeman on a motorcycle.
They did not stop at the picket and shot at the police team instead. The police team shot back and chased them.
The chase continued for three hours before three of the men in the car were shot dead, and two men, including the policeman, were injured.
The injured were taken to Nishtar Hospital, where they were reported to be out of danger. Doctors said the men will be kept in intensive care for the next 72 hour. The deceased were identified as Haq Nawaz, Atif and Asghar, who the police said were wanted in more than 70 cases of robbery, theft and kidnap-for-ransom.
Police said initial investigation had revealed that the men were all members of a criminal gang led by Assistant Sub Inspector Ameer Muhammad. The other injured was identified as Muhammad Javed.
The deceased were natives of Shujaabad, a sub-district of Multan.
