KARACHI:

Accessories designer Mahin Hussain loves to make patriotic statement pieces. With her creative side on a high, she is as eager as anyone else about the upcoming elections. Mahin wants every Pakistani to vote and she is emphasising the same with her new collection of bags titled Election Tote.

“Election Tote is a collection of bags done primarily to create awareness amongst people about the importance of voting,” said Mahin. “I am extremely excited about the elections as the previous five years have not only been terrible for me as an individual and entrepreneur, but also as a common person.” Mahin added that she is hopeful to see a progressive Pakistan.

Previously, the label, Mahin Hussain, has celebrated Pakistan Day and Independence Day by creating bags and clutches that bear the slogans “hum zinda qaum hain”. The thematic bags and clutches make unique fashion statements and become reminders to work towards a better Pakistan.

On April 17, Mahin launched her new collection and explained her purpose. “With this bag, I want to reinforce the idea of voting. I come across many people [even in my own family] who are so disillusioned by Pakistan,” said Mahin. “I strongly feel that in order to improve the situation, we, as Pakistanis, need to get up and vote. It’s as simple as that.” She continued her explanation and concluded by saying: “Each vote counts.”

“I want to target the middle class with this tote. It is a basic tote and it’s priced at Rs750 to ensure that the maximum number of people buy it.”

Commenting about who she expects to win the elections, Mahin said: “No one party will come out as a clear winner. I do not want to put any single party’s emblem.” Mahin shared her ideas and stressed on education. “I intend to work on ideas that help educate the masses and would not want to promote any single party,” she said. “My bags are about Pakistan.”

Mahin Hussain’s collection Election Totes can be bought at The House of Ensemble in Karachi, Fashion Pakistan Lounge in Lahore and L’atelier in Islamabad.
