RAWALPINDI:

A couple was killed and three others including a minor were injured in two different traffic-related incidents on Monday, the police informed.

In the first incident, which took place near Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Sunday late night, Amjad Mughal, his wife Kiran Amjad and their son Muneeb-- all residents of Waris Khan -- were riding a motorcycle when a speeding car hit them. The couple died on the spot while both of Muneeb’s legs were broken.

Rescue and police officials rushed to the scene and shifted the child to hospital, while the bodies were sent for autopsy. A case has been registered against the unidentified driver of the car and investigations are underway, a police official added.

In the second incident, a coaster (IDG-2835), while attempting to avoid a stray buffalo, collided with a motorcycle with three youngsters on board on Adiala Road along Dehgal Village. Of the three, two sustained critical injuries and were shifted to Combined Military Hospital and District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ), according to the police.

Acting Saddar Bairuni Police Station House Officer Malik Aftab Ahmed said the coaster belonged to a “sensitive government department” and was going from Rawalpindi to Khasla, a village in the Adiala area, when a buffalo walked into the middle of the lane near the graveyard in Dehgal. The driver of the coaster swerved right and collided with a Honda 125 motorcycle coming from opposite side with three boys on board. The two injured men were shifted to DHQ.

The injured were identified as Ibrahim Ahmed, 20, and Javed Pervaiz, 20, whereas the third rider, Sarmad, 17, managed to get out with minor bruises. Neither the bus driver nor the owner of the buffalo had been arrested when this report was filed.
