PESHAWAR:

Disgruntled members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday asked its central leadership to award party tickets on merit.

Merit should be the prevalent deciding factor for the PTI, Leader of the party’s local chapter, Fazal Elahi told participants of a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club, claiming certain members of the party were hiding facts from PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

“We have started the ‘Save-PTI’ movement to prevent the party from becoming mediocre like the Awami National Party, Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz,” Elahi said.

“We had a meeting of the ‘Save-PTI’ and decided to inform Imran Khan about each and every development in party decisions at the regional end; especially those which are not merit-based.”

According to Elahi, Imran Khan has also expressed concern over the due process with regard to ticket allocation not being followed in some areas. “I had a meeting with Imran Khan a few days back and he assured me merit would be taken into consideration.”

Another party leader, Dr Inayat Khan said, “Candidates aspiring for national and provincial assembly tickets should have been interviewed. Even female members have been discriminated against in certain cases during nominations for reserved seats.”
