Infrastructure: Gen Kayani inaugurates projects in Swat, Bajaur

Pakistan Army engineers completed the project at a cost of Rs266.2 million in less than two years.

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Swat and Bajaur on Friday to inaugurate projects completed under the United Arab Emirates Pakistan Assistance Programme (UPAP).


In Swat, General Kayani inaugurated the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nahyan Bridge connecting Shamozai valley to the rest of the country. Pakistan Army engineers completed the project at a cost of Rs266.2 million in less than two years.


A curfew was imposed in Landakey area for his visit and the Grand Trunk Road, connecting Swat to the rest of the country, was shut down for all vehicular traffic, causing problems for commuters.

General Kayani was accompanied by UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Essa Abdullah Khalifa al Naeemi, Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Khalid Rabbani and UPAP Director Mir Abdullah al Ghefeli.

UAE has also funded the construction of more than 45 schools demolished by militants in Sawat.

Meanwhile, in Bajaur, the chief of army staff inaugurated the Technical College at Khar, an ISPR statement said.
