ISLAMABAD:

Child Rights Club, set up by Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC), organised an environmental excursion for students on Tuesday to highlight the importance of social responsibility among the younger generation.

Children from ASAS International School and Khaldunia High School gathered at the foot of Margalla Hills at Trail 3 to attend a briefing about the benefits of tree plantation and plant species preservation.

The kids then proceeded up the hills on a trail to Daman-e-Koh, where they were to plant saplings along the way.

The 100 Kachnar and Amaltaas plants were provided by the Capital Development Authority.

Deputy Director of Environment Abdul Mannan, present at the event, praised the enthusiasm of the students, who have pledged to tend to the plants to record their growth once a month

“We all plan on coming as often as possible to witness the progress. Our schools are situated nearby so it won’t be a problem,” said an ASAS 10th grader.
