LAHORE: Assistant Controller Punjab University Syed Zubair Ahmed appealed to the Supreme Court and the government on Saturday to provide him and his family security against the people who have been threatening him for the past few months, Express News reported Saturday.

Ahmed said he had been receiving threats of being kidnapped or even being killed. He was also threatened that his family may also be harmed. The Punjab university official revealed that he was receiving these threats via messages on his cell phone, primarily because he was the focal official for verifying degrees of parliamentarians.

“We have been receiving threats since Supreme Court has instructed us to verify the degrees of parliamentarians. I request the Supreme Court to take action against the people who have been threatening us." Ahmed said. Failure to provide security would make it "difficult for us to work in these circumstances.”

Ahmed, along with other Punjab university officers involved in degree verification process, had filed a report with the police but allegedly a political party stopped the police from taking any action.

"We will not work if the Supreme Court fails to provide security."

Recently, many parliamentarians and politicians have been disqualified from contesting in the upcoming general elections for holding fake degrees.
