Unrepaired pylons: Balochistan farmers observe strike

The power cuts are particularly painful in Balochistan where agriculture is dependent on tube-wells.

QUETTA:
Farmers observed a strike against an extraordinary power breakdown that threatens to wreck their standing crops.

The power cuts – blamed on damaged electric pylons for the main transmission line in Chatter area of Jaffarabad – are particularly painful in Balochistan where agriculture is dependent on tube-wells. Repairs could not be carried out on Tuesday even after a lapse of three days.

The worst affected districts include Pishin, Kalat, Mastung, Khuzdar, Chaman, Killa Abdullah, among many others. Meanwhile, a delegation of Zamindar Action Committee called on Caretaker Chief Minister Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Barozai to address the issue of chronic power shortages in the province. Barozai said that he has already taken the matter to caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khosa.
