Children entertained an audience with a string of mesmerising performances at the House of Light (HOL) school’s annual function on Tuesday, said a press release from the school.
HOL, founded in 2006, is located in Pind Begwal, around 27 kilometres east of Islamabad and is run by Horizon International Trust (HIT).
The school provides free education to underprivileged children of the area, which includes pick and drop services, uniforms, textbooks and meals three days a week.
This year’s function was dedicated to Malala Yousafzai and her fight to achieve nationwide education for girls.
The event included poem recitals, national songs, regional dances, and a skit in the local Potohari dialect.
Chief guest Dr Shireen Mazari commended the performances and gave a special mention to mothers for providing their children the opportunity to educate themselves.
HOL supporter Dr Dushka Saiyid lauded the efforts of HIT President Raja Qaiser Ghaffar and HOL Principal Sadia Qaiser in bringing success and a good name to the school. A trustee and Curator of Gallery 6 Dr Arjumand Faisel, presented art prizes for three children after consulting with Shehla Rafi, a leading landscape painter.
Special invitees were all praise for the teachers who they said had organised the function professionally.
“These children are far more confident than those I’ve seen from other schools, it’s very impressive,” a guest was heard saying.
