QUETTA/ISLAMABAD:
The chief election commissioner (CEC) arrived in Quetta on Wednesday on a mission to pacify Baloch political leaders and persuade them to participate in the upcoming elections.
CEC Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, along with other members of the commission, will meet the leadership of 13 parties, including the National Party Balochistan, Balochistan National Party (Awami), Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Hazara Democratic Party, Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl).
However, putting the disgruntled leaders at ease and winning their confidence will not be an easy task for the election commission (ECP).
The participation of some nationalists’ leaders is unlikely since they have not confirmed their attendance. Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP), which is headed by Talal Bugti and Baloch Republican Party (BRP), which is headed by Brahamdagh Khan Bugti, have not shown any interest in attending the meeting, The Express Tribune learnt on Wednesday.
