Road mishaps: Three killed, 23 injured in multiple accidents

MALAKAND/ NOWSHERA/ DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least three people were killed and 23 injured in multiple accidents across the province on Friday.

A passenger bus overturned near Akora Khattak on GT Road in Nowshera, injuring 22 people including women and children.

An official of Akora Khattak police said the accident occurred at around 11am. The driver of the bus was trying to prevent a collision with a speeding car and diverted it to the opposite road, but lost control and the bus overturned, he added.

The police official said locals rushed to rescue the injured and took out the passengers from the bus, shifting them to the rural health centre in Akora Khattak. However, a woman who had been critically injured was referred to the Lady Reading Hospital.



The unidentified driver of the speeding vehicle managed to escape.

In a separate accident, a passenger coach collided with a truck near Bannu Adda in Dera Ismail Khan (DIK), injuring one person and killing another, said an official of the Cantonment police station.

Hassan Coach was en route from Rawalpindi via Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab. It collided with a truck when it reached Bannu Adda. The driver of the coach, Muhammad Rizwan, died on the spot, while passenger Shah Nawaz’s legs were fractured. He was rushed to District Headquarter Hospital.

On Nawaz’s complaint, the police registered an FIR against unidentified persons.

In another incident, two men were killed when their truck fell from Malakand Pass, in Batkhela, Malakand.

An official of the levies force said the truck loaded with goods was heading to Chitral from Dargai. It skidded from a mountain and plunged into a deep ravine, killing driver Hassan Khan and cleaner Shoukat Khan, he added.

The truck was completely destroyed, the official said. The bodies of both victims were shifted to headquarters hospital in Batkhela and later handed over to the bereaved relatives for burial.
