LAHORE:

Former federal minister Dr Mubashar Hassan has filed an application in the Supreme Court for an early hearing of his petition concerning the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The petitioner submitted that newspapers and televisions channels had made “shocking disclosures” of politicians seeking to bribe voters by giving them jobs. These actions constituted pre-poll rigging, but the Election Commission had not taken notice of them, he said.

Dr Hassan also submitted that the caretaker administrations in Sindh and Balochistan were not credible.

He asked the court to direct the Election Commission to disqualify politicians who did not meet the requirements set under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. He said that since the matter was urgent, the court should hear the petition on March 26.
