Islamabad high court: Mobile companies told to cease prize schemes

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Wednesday directed all cellular mobile operators (CMOs) to stop their ‘inaami’ (prize) schemes with immediate effect, according to a press release.



The Islamabad High Court, on March 8, dismissed a writ petition filed by the five CMOs in the country regarding their prize schemes, the PTA said in a press release. The telecom regulator, therefore, has issued a written notification to the CMOs and requires them to report compliance to the ICH’s order by March 21.

The PTA, according to more – a Lahore based publication that covers IT and Telecom news – had directed the CMOs to stop their prize schemes with effect from April 13, 2012 because they violated regulation 8(4) and 8(5)(i) of the Telecom Consumer Protection Regulation 2009.
