Football: Deportivo boost survival bid
The two teams were promoted last season but are in serious peril of going straight back down.
MADRID:
Bottom club Deportivo La Coruna boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation by beating 10-man Celta Vigo 3-1 in the Galician derby, a first victory in 10 La Liga outings.
The two teams were promoted last season but are in serious peril of going straight back down.
Deportivo have 20 points from 28 matches, while second from bottom Celta, who have lost six of their last seven games, are on 23, one point behind Real Mallorca.
“It was a very important match for us,” said Deportivo midfielder Juan Carlos Valeron. “There was a lot at stake because of the situation we are in, the opponent, and everything else.”
