Two suspects escape SIU custody

Three police officers have been arrested for allegedly aiding the inmates in their escape.

KARACHI: Two suspects, who were recently arrested by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), escaped from an SIU cell on Sunday, while three police officers have been arrested for allegedly aiding the inmates in their escape.

The SIU had apprehended Shafiq and Wasim from Surjani Town after an encounter, and three cases were registered against them in the Surjani police station. The two men were suspected of being involved in various crimes such as kidnappings. Three SIU officials - Inspector Shabbir Hussain Gilgiti, ASI Mukhtar and ASI Masooq - have been arrested on charges of accepting bribes from the suspects and helping them escape. A case against them was registered in the Saddar police station on behalf of  SIU Sub-Inspector Ghulam Chandio.
