Haripur: Two girls commit suicide
First suicide was reported from Kotnajibullah, while the other was reported from an Afghan refugee camp in Khalabat.
HARIPUR:
Two girls committed suicide in different parts of the district on Thursday, police said. The first suicide was reported in the jurisdiction of Kotnajibullah police station.
The police quoted Ajmal Khan of Daidan village saying his daughter Nasim Akhtar, 16, was speaking to a friend over the phone when her paternal uncle reprimanded her. The girl got infuriated and shot herself with a 30-bore pistol.
She was taken to Women and Children Hospital, but died due to excessive bleeding.
Other sources contested this and demanded an inquiry into Akhtar’s death, saying it may be a case of honour killing.
The second suicide was reported from an Afghan refugee camp in Khalabat, where an unmarried woman Jana Bibi, 31, consumed anti-rodents.
The police said she died before any medical care was given to her. The reason behind the suicide could not be ascertained.
