KARACHI:

The leaders of Majlis-e-Wahadat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) have condemned the Sindh Chief Minister for failing to provide compensation to the families of the Abbas Town blast.

At a news conference at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, MWM secretary-general Allama Sadiq Raza Taqvi criticised the commissioner, additional commissioner and the deputy commissioner for the delays in payments. “Though the commissioner made tall claims that the compensation will be provided within two or three days, not a single family has been compensated,” said Taqvi, adding that these government officials have started threatening members of the MWM for coordinating efforts to release payments.

Taqvi further said that the chief minister had announced Rs1 million for the injured and Rs1.5 million to families of the deceased but the commissioner and the two other officials were trying to cut down compensation for those affected by the tragedy. “There are reports that these officials are trying to show some deceased as injured in their documents so that the money can go into their pockets.” He threatened legal action against these officials.
