Haq was arrested for holding a rally calling for the end of the Bajaur operation in the tribal areas a few years ago.
An official of the Munda police said that on August 22, 2008 Sirajul Haq while addressing a gathering in Munda area of the district Lower Dir have tried to create riots, public mischief and had gathered unlawful assembly after which the police registered and FIR against him.
The official added that on Wednesday the vice president of JI had produced himself before Civil Judge Akbar Ali in Samarbagh for a case hearing when police arrested and put him behind bars in Headquarters Jail in Timergara.
The official added a case was filed against the Haq under section 505-341-147 and 149 of Pakistan Penal Code.
KP spokesperson for JI said that the legal formalities for the release of Haq had been completed and he could be released anytime soon.
He had also taken an active part in protest rallies against the reopening of Nato transit routes following the Salala in which many Pakistani soldiers were killed because of a cross-border raid from Afghanistan conducted by US and NATO forces.
He is known for being a vocal critic of the federal and provincial governments.

@ali ahmed: completely agreed. the news item above also reported that this JI leader is "known for being a vocal critic of the federal and provincial governments" and since both the governments are liberal therefore he should be punished immediately. After all he "tried to create riots, public mischief and had gathered unlawful assembly" in 2008 which cannot be tolerated in a liberal society. Bangladesh deserves a salute from all the liberals of the world on their timely action against Jamaat for 1971 liberation war.
