Labour training: Technical training initiative kicks off
Upon successful completion, the program will be replicated and extended to other companies
KARACHI:
A letter of intent was signed by companies participating in the Germany-Pakistan Training Initiative (GPATI) initiated by the German consulate in Karachi, says a press release issued here. The ceremony was held at a local hotel on Tuesday. The purpose of the GPATI programme is to implement a pilot cooperative training scheme for German and European companies operating in Pakistan. Upon successful completion, the program will be replicated and extended to other companies and will also be used by the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority. Training is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2013 in the following occupational groups: general electric (including motor winding), general mechanics (including bench fitting and machining), electronics, process controlling, pharmaceutical technician, motor vehicle service mechanic, customer service, supply chain, sales and operations. So far the project involves Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, Schenker, Merck, DHL, BASF, METRO, Lufthansa-Cargo and Linde.
