PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army established three check posts in Hasan Khel, Jina Kor and Shamshato areas of Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar on Sunday.

Local residents said a contingent of Pakistan Army has been deployed in these areas and are also in the process of establishing a hill top bunker in Kara Dara, which is frequently used by militants to reach villages.

They said the base of the contingent was in Shamshato area. Troops have also been deployed at the teacher’s hostel in Jina Kor previously occupied by the 23 unfortunate levies personnel who were attacked and abducted by militants in December 2012. The bodies of 21 personnel were later found dumped in a nullah in Hasan Khel. A third check post has been established in Hassan Khel near the nullah.

Soon after the brazen attack, most of the levies and khasadar troops left their ancestral villages for Karachi and Lahore.

“A large contingent of the army came to the area and after inspecting several locations, established three check posts in different areas,” said an elder of Hasan Khel while requesting anonymity.

He added the army has closed down the main road leading to Bara for all types of vehicular traffic. “The residents are very happy with the arrival of the army as in the past two months, most of the girls schools in the area had to be closed down due to the fear of militants,” maintained the elder.

“Without any doubt, there is frequent movement of militants in the FR and we want to make sure it is stopped,” said an official of the political administration.
