MULTAN:

As many as 900 laptops and 3,600 solar lamps were distributed among students in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday.

A ceremony in this regard at the main ground of Post Graduate College was presided over by PML-N MNA Hamza Shahbaz after Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif could not make it to the event. Senator Zulfiqar Khosa was also present at the event.

Later, Hamza Shahbaz also inaugurated the upgrade ceremony of the DG Khan Government High School for Boys.

The project has been completed at a cost of Rs220 million.

Hamza Shahbaz also inaugurated the first model bazaar in the city, set up at a cost of Rs30 million. The model bazaar has been constructed near the central prison and close to the National Highway to facilitate both the rural and urban population.

He also inaugurated a Danish School competed at a cost of Rs600 million. The school has a capacity for 500 students. In terms of capacity, Hamza Shahbaz said, the DG Khan Danish School was the biggest in the Punjab.

Later, 22 flood-affected families from Gadai arrived outside the school where Hamza Shahbaz was addressing the students and protested against the government for not giving them aid.

They said the flood-hit people in the area had been missed in the survey and had thus not received any relief.

Hamza Shahbaz met the families and assured them that they would soon get aid they needed. He also directed the officials concerned to investigate into their complaints.

Some 30 Post Graduate College students later complained that they had not been given laptops despite meeting merit. They alleged that the college administration and teachers had distributed the laptops among favourites. Hamza Shahbaz ordered an inquiry into the allegation. He assured the students that they will get justice.

There is some good in ths scheme...if the top graders are gifted a laptop that gives others an incentive to work hard too...and using technology to improve education standards will definately help the students.
