Pir Mazharul Haq backtracks on opposing new Hyderabad university
Strike observed in Hyderabad following Sindh Minister’s opposition to setting up of university in Hyderabad.

Sindh Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq changed his statement, saying three universities will be set up in Hyderabad, Express News reported Sunday. He added that he never opposed the setting up of a university.
Haq had earlier opposed the setting up of a government university in a statement while speaking at the convocation of Sindh University on Saturday. He had said that he will not allow the setting up of a University in Hyderabad city and would stand against any such efforts.
The statement by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) parliamentary party leader evoked a severe response from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
A shutter down strike was observed in Hyderabad following the Sindh Minister’s opposition to the setting up of university in Hyderabad.
Trade centers and business houses remained closed in Hyderabad, while demonstrations were also seen in some parts of Karachi.
Even the Hyderabad Anjuman Tajiran supported MQM and the shops and trade centers were closed across the city this morning.
The city dwellers condemned the statement given by Haq.
Police and rangers were nowhere in sight while protestors blocked roads and torched tyres in different parts of the city.
