PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the provincial health secretary to constitute a board to look into the autopsies of bodies recovered from gunny bags.

The bench comprising Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth expressed concerns over the provincial director general health’s failure to transfer duplicitous doctors despite court orders. They were accused of concealing facts while conducting autopsies of the bodies recovered.

The court ordered the health department to file cases under Section 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code if doctors were caught covering up post-mortem findings again.

On January 15, the court reissued a notice against the director general health services. It asked whether doctors accused of inaccurately reporting autopsies had been transferred to ‘remote’ areas.
