ISLAMABAD: In its efforts to screen out all prospective candidates involved in corrupt practices, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved stringent scrutiny procedures for election  nomination on Tuesday, Express News reported.

Under the new rules, candidates will have to disclose their source of income for the past three years.

The candidates will also be required to provide the commission with details of their tax returns, children studying abroad and international travel history.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had earlier announced full cooperation with the commission to scrutinise the financial and taxation documents of all the hopeful candidates.

As per the new scrutiny process, the candidates with fake degrees will not be eligible to take part in the general elections.

The commission has also terminated the electoral lists from 2000 and 2008.

Previously, the ECP had instructed all political parties to conduct intra-party elections as part of an overall eligibility criteria to take part in the forthcoming general elections.
