SIALKOT/GUJRANWALA/MULTAN:

Two people were killed and four other were injured in three shooting incidents on Friday.

In Sialkot, two murder accused were shot dead shortly after they left for a court hearing. Cantt police said the deceased had been shot by their rival group apparently “to avenge murders”.

They said Shahbaz and Raheem of Kharkana village had allegedly shot four people of the rival family, including two brothers, on April 10, 2012.  They were arrested on the charge, but were released on bail.

On Friday, when they were on their way to the court for the hearing of the case, they were attacked by three men.

In Gujranwala, two people were taken to Civil Hospital with bullet injuries after they were shot allegedly by a cousin. Doctors treating them said they would likely survive.

The assailant fled, but was arrested a few hours later.

Cantonment police said that Nawaz and his friend Ilyas were shot on their way to the police station, where Nawaz had been called for questioning in an attempted murder case against him. They said Nawaz had allegedly shot at his uncle Mushtaq a few months ago over a property dispute. His uncle, they said, was shot in the leg which had to be amputated later. Nawaz was arrested, but later released on bail.

On Friday, Mushtaq’s son, Qamar, followed Nawaz and Ilyas and shot Nawaz near the sugar mills in Cantonment. Qamar fled the scene, but was arrested a few hours later.

In Multan, two men were injured in an exchange of fire between two rival groups in the Delhi Gate area.

The injured, Bilal and Sajid from the Bilal group, were taken to a hospital, where they were reported to be out of danger. One of their members, Sadaqat, was caught and beaten by the rival group. He was later released. No one was arrested in the case.
