KARACHI:

Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

It seemed as if the words of 1972 Munich Olympic gold medalist, Dan Gable were behind the zeal and enthusiasm displayed by the students of Genesis School at their annual Sports Olympiad on Wednesday.

No one would have thought that the students who first enthralled the spectators with their taekwando display and synchronised steps to the beats of Ae Jawan and Stand up for the champions  would show such fierce desire to win medals. But one thing was obvious right from the word go.

The champions of the last two years were not going to complete a hat trick. The Gladiators in blue completely demolished the red-shirted defending champions and took the trophy home. The nobles in green again settled for second position.
