Agri-products: Punjab govt to double trading fee
Government was charging Re1 per quintal on the sale and purchases of agricultural products for the last 16 years.

The provincial government of Punjab has decided to double the charges/fee on trading of agriculture products across the province. The government was charging Re1 per quintal (100 kilogrammes) on the sale and purchases of agricultural products for the last 16 years. However, according to sources, it has decided to double the fees. Sources added that the last time the fee was increased in 1996 and till date the provincial government charged the same amount. In this regard, the government has invited suggestions and proposal from all organisations of grains markets, which will discussed at a meeting and increased tariff will be notified. When contacted, the chairman of the Market Committee of Faisalabad Muhammad Akbar Ghauri said that the present fee rate was very low and should be increased as per the need of the hours.
