KARACHI:

Four hundred policemen, who were found involved in criminal activities, have been withdrawn from their field duties and have been asked to report to their headquarters, said AIG for legal Ali Sher Jakhrani.

In a Supreme Court suo motu hearing on Karachi violence last week, the judges were told that these policemen continue to work without any consequences. Apprehending further judicial action by the judges, Sindh IGP Fayyaz Leghari issued orders on Saturday to withdraw these policemen.

Forty-eight of these policemen belong to the three districts of Karachi, while the remaining ones are from five ranges of rural Sindh. A report on a disciplinary inquiry against these policemen under the supervision of district or ranges’ police chiefs will be presented in court, as well.
