Saturday Studio, which started out as a weekend programme for children between four to 14 and went on to become a full-fledged arts school holding classes throughout the week, held its first exhibition, ‘Art for Young Minds’, at ArtChowk Gallery from February 8.
Artists, students and members of civil society were present at the exhibition where paintings by children aged five to 11 were on display. “The idea to set up the studio came from my own arts background,” explained Laila Premjee, the director of the studio. “I felt there were very few art studios in Karachi and I wanted to set up one that could provide a diverse range of activities for children of various ages.”
The students had combined different mediums and techniques to put together paintings, which adorned the walls of the gallery till February 9.
