KARACHI:
The police claims to have arrested 10 suspects involved in targeted killings, extortion and robberies.

During a press conference at his office, District West DIG Javed Odho said that on a tip-off, law enforcers conducted two separate raids in Mauripur and apprehended street criminals as well as members of a gang. Nauroz, Rasool Buksh, Adnan, Badain and Arif were arrested from Raees Goth while Samad Baloch, Arshad, Kamal, Abdul Wahid and Jan Mohammad were apprehended from Hub River Road.

DIG Odho said that Nauroz and Samad are the leaders of their groups. Nauroz’s group was involved in targeted killings as well as incidents of extortion. Samad’s group was involved in several cases of street crimes and a couple of house robberies in Defence View and Mehmoodabad.

The officer added that during interrogation, members of Samad’s group had confessed to have killed about half a dozen people when they refused to hand their valuables over to them and also sexually assualted a woman during a house robbery. DIG Odho said that he believes that there would be a massive decrease in street crimes as Samad’s group has been arrested, adding that law enforcers also seized a huge cache of weapons and narcotics from the suspects’ possession. Separately, an alleged member of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Mohammad Khan aka Timepass aka Afghani, was arrested while three accomplices managed to escape during an encounter with the police in Sohrab Goth.

DSP Qamar Ahmed said that the suspects had been involved in attacks on policemen and were also involved in several cases of extortion. Further investigation is under way.
