ISLAMABAD:

One of the most high-profile fugitives who led the corruption watchdogs and federal agents on a wild goose chase for months is still unlikely to go behind bars after being arrested in Abu Dhabi, at least till his documents are prepared.

The Supreme Court on Thursday said that Tauqir Sadiq’s return from abroad should be dealt with under the deportation rules and should not be linked with extradition laws.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif continued hearing on the case of multi-billion rupee corruption scam of former chairman Ogra Tauqir Sadiq and his arrest from the UAE.

Justice Khawaja said evidence suggests that Sadiq would not be returning to Pakistan.

Azam Khan, an FIA official explained that Dubai officials are saying that when their country issues someone a residence visa then even cancellation of passport does not matter. That is why the Dubai authorities are seeking some more documents, he added.

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said when a person’s passport has been cancelled by the issuing authority then it should be dealt differently.
