Violence in the city: Two members of religious groups killed

KARACHI:

At least six people, two of whom belonged to religious groups, were killed in Karachi on Monday.

A member of Sunni Tehreek, Khalid Omair, who had been released from jail recently, was shot dead in New Karachi by two armed men on a motorcycle. A two-year-old boy, Ansar, was also wounded. In a separate incident, a former member of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, Qari Khalid, was shot dead by armed men in Korangi near the Awami Colony police station.

The owner of a garment factory was shot dead near MA Jinnah Road. DSP Zameer Abbasi said that he was on his way home after withdrawing Rs250,000 from the bank when armed men robbed and killed him. A 35-year-old man, Riaz Shaukat, was also shot dead and two brothers, Adnan and Kamran, were wounded by armed men on motorcycles near Kashmir Road. SP Usman Bajwa said that the brothers used to work in a mobile phone company and were on their way to work when the incident occurred.



An alleged robber, Tariq Ovais, was shot dead near Guru Mandir. Police officials suspect that his companions might be responsible for his death which, they claim, occurred because of a dispute over money. A labourer, Akbar Afzal, was shot dead by two armed men on motorcycles in Baldia Town near Saeedabad police station. Additionally, the police found the body of a young man from a nullah in Saddar. The body was shifted to Edhi morgue, Sohrab Goth, for identification.
