Leghari likely new police chief

Sindh government has decided to appoint Hyderabad Regional Police Officer Fayyaz Leghari as the new Karachi CCPO.

KARACHI:
The Sindh government has decided in principle to appoint Hyderabad Regional Police Officer Fayyaz Leghari as the new Karachi Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) or chief of police.

Leghari met Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and Inspector General Sindh Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak on Tuesday and briefed them about his professional performance and achievements. The three men exchanged views on the issues of target killings and the rampant street crimes in Karachi.

Leghari took charge as the Hyderabad RPO on September 26, 2007. Before that, he was serving as the Mirpurkhas DIG. He has also served as the DIG Operations and DIG Investigations in Karachi.

Police sources said that a notification about Leghari’s appointment as the city’s CCPO would be issued soon, while Additional IG Sindh Wajid Durrani is temporarily looking after the responsibilities of the CCPO, after Waseem Ahmed, who has been appointed as the FIA director general, stepped down on Tuesday.
