The United States and Sindh governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday to build a new hospital in Jacobabad which will provide high-quality healthcare to the residents of Northern Sindh and Balochistan.
The MOU was signed by the USAID Deputy Mission Director Leon Waskin and Health Secretary Aftab Ahmad Khatri.
According to the memorandum, the United States Agency for International Development will provide $10million for construction of the 133-bed Jacobabad Institute of Medical Sciences. Construction is expected to begin soon and will be completed within 2 years.
The USAID will provide medical equipment as well as a solar energy system and standby generators to secure a continuous energy supply for this state-of-the-art medical facility.
The Sindh government will set up an independent hospital management board, comprising government officials, noted health practitioners, and civil society representatives to oversee the workings of the hospital.

thank you USAID, if one just $10 million costing us for one hospital of this level and kind, i suggest every district in Sindh, where we have over a million people living, most of them below the poverty line, Sindh should have such hospital every district headquarter.
The suggestion of giving the affairs of this hospital to private governing board is very much appreciated, if we see Gumbat Institute of Medical Sciences, that model is really effective in terms of management and services deliver.
