PESHAWAR:

A blast inside the committee room of University of Peshawar’s (UoP) Islamyat Department left two people unconscious.

No casualty was reported as the building was closed at the time of the explosion. The two female students who fell unconscious by the sound of the blast were rushed to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, where doctors said they had no physical injuries.

The explosion on Wednesday afternoon also damaged the building. Campus police initially reported that the blast was caused by a gas cylinder, but the bomb disposal squad (BDS) later said that there was a bomb. “One kilogramme of explosives was used,” a BDS official said.

“This is the second attack on the campus so we are naturally worried about it,” said an anxious police officer. The first explosion occurred in the Geology Department’s lab. He added that both the blasts had sent a wave of shock and fear across the otherwise peaceful campus.
