USAID project: Capacitors installed on 233 tubewells to help conserve energy

Capacitors have been installed on 233 tubewells in the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) region with the assistance of USAID and are saving at least a megawatt of electricity.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan on Thursday, during a USAID team visit to the Fesco Headquarters, said there was a lot of room for improvement in the departments of engineering and planning. He hoped that the Fesco staff would achieve the desired results with the new equipment and technical training provided by under the USAID programme.
Fesco is working on several projects with the USAID so that technical losses can be reduced.
Saleem Arif, deputy chief of party of the USAID, told Fesco officials that improvement in the power sector was one of the USAID’s priorities and a multi-dimensional programme had been undertaken for this purpose. The agency is assisting distribution companies (DISCOs) upgrade the technology they use. Arif said he hoped the changes would ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.
New meters are also being installed on all feeders under the Load Management Improvement Project (LMIP). A power control centre is also being established at the Fesco Headquarters.
